Build your price book

The price book holds the parts and labour rates your whole account shares. Save a rate once and every job can price itself from it, whether the quantities came off a drawing or out of a building model.

There are two good reasons to use it rather than typing rates each time. Jobs get quoted faster, and when a supplier price moves you change it in one place.

Find it under Setup, then Price book.

1. Choose + New part.
2. Fill in the Description. This is what you will search for later, so write it the way you would say it, for example “DN100 sanitary pipe run”.
3. Set the Unit of measure: ea for things you count, m for runs, m2 for surfaces.
4. Put in the Unit cost, which is what you pay, and the Markup %. Tally works the unit price out from the two.
5. Add a Part number if you use one. It is optional, and it shows in the table and on exports.
6. Save. It is available on every job immediately.

Labour works the same way, on its own tab: a description, a Time basis, a Rate and a markup.

Every measurement dialog has a Part box that searches this book, and the field says what it does: search saved parts or create a new one. Picking a saved part fills in the unit, the cost and the markup for you, which is most of the typing gone.

The worksheet uses it too. + Additional item on an area card pulls a part straight from the price book for something that was never on a drawing.

You do not need the whole book before your first job. Every time you type a rate you know you will use again, add it. After a couple of jobs the parts you reach for most are already in there.
