Statuses, labels and count symbols, so jobs sort themselves the way you think.
None of this is urgent
Everything on this page arrives with sensible defaults and can be left alone for your first few jobs. Come back once you know how you actually want to sort your work, which is usually after two or three jobs rather than before the first.
It all lives under Setup, and all of it applies across every job in your account.
Statuses, so a list tells you where things stand
Project statuses are the coloured pills on your projects list. Tally starts you with open, in progress and complete.
Each row can be renamed, recoloured and dragged into a different order. One status is the default that new jobs start on. The Complete tick marks a status as an end state, which is how Tally knows a job is finished rather than merely late.
Two different kinds of label
Project labels tag whole jobs, and Tally starts with residential and commercial. They filter your projects list.
Take-off labels tag measurements and templates, and Tally starts with plumbing and electrical. They are the chips that filter the templates page, which is what keeps that page usable once you have thirty of them.
Both work the same way: pick a colour, type a name, choose Add label. Existing ones can be renamed, recoloured, reordered and deleted.
Your count symbols
My symbols holds the markers Tally drops when you place a count. It comes with a default category holding a circle, a triangle and a square, which is enough to start.
- Choose Add category and name it for a trade or a job type, so the symbol you want is findable later.
- Choose Upload symbols to bring your own into that category.
- Use the preview panel to see how a symbol will look on a sheet before you commit to it.

Import from Bluebeam takes your existing tool set across, so the symbols your team already recognises are the ones on the drawing.
Why symbols are worth ten minutes
A count is only readable if the marker means something. Distinct symbols per fixture type are what let you look at a marked-up sheet six weeks later and see what was counted, and they make the colour isolation control in the editor genuinely useful.
