Where models live, and how to get one into a job.
A model belongs to a job
Models in the top bar lists every building model in your account, but it is not a library you can upload into. The empty state says it plainly: models live inside a project, so open a project and upload a model there to pull out quantities.
That is the same rule drawings follow. If you have not made the job yet, make it first. See create a project.
Get one in
- Choose Upload from a project on the models page, or go there from the job you want it in.
- Pick the project this model belongs to. If it is not there, there is a link to create one without losing your place.
- Drag your model file onto the dropzone, or browse for it. The page confirms which project the model is being added to.
- Wait while Tally processes it. Models are larger than drawings, so this takes longer than a PDF import.
What Tally accepts
The dropzone lists what it supports: Revit, Navisworks, IFC, Rhino and CAD models. You do not need any of that software installed. In the page’s own words, you upload your model and Tally pulls out the quantities for you, with no CAD software needed.
One job, both kinds of takeoff
A project can hold drawings and models at the same time, and its overview counts both. Your rates are shared too: the price book covers drawing takeoff and model quantities alike, so a part you saved for one is already there for the other.
What this page does not cover yet
This guide stops where we can show you the real thing. Opening a processed model, moving around it, and reading the quantities it produced are not written up here yet, so nothing on this page describes a screen we have not put in front of you.
